Dear friends of AURA,

AURAs lease of life ran out in 2018, but we think it is time to revive one of its most rewarding features, namely the slow seminar. 

The "Slow seminar: Reading More-than-Human Worlds" is the name of the ghost version of the slow seminar. Like its predecessor, it will run on a monthly basis and hopes to bring together old friends of AURA, new fans of CEH as well as students and staff interested in more-than-human worlds - not only at Aarhus University but also (through video-conferencing when possible) at UCSC, at Cape Town University, and elsewhere.

The first "Slow seminar: Reading More-than-Human Worlds" will take place:

For the seminar, we will read Andrea Ballestero's book "A Future History of Water" (Duke 2019).  Based on fieldwork in Costa Rica and Brazil, the book is an anthropological/STS analysis of the ways in which water access is made into a human right.  The book is interesting for insisting on seeing water as a material entity rather than just a symbol with fixed meaning.  Situated at the cusp between the new material turn, anthropology, and STS, the book is also relevant for those interested in water, oceans and water crisis. As the release of the IPCC on Oceans yesterday demonstrates, water has an ability to conjure up powerful histories and futures of many kinds through its very material effects.
