The Master Plan of the Gellerup estate is a complex phenomenon and its aspects intervene substantially in the lives of the residents. The scale of the transformations is unprecedented in recent Danish history and with the recent political developments in mind, the interventions in the lives of the residents from the municipality, the housing association and the state might become even more intrusive in the future. Tracking strands of Villagization, Normalization and Creativization genealogically in the history of the estate and focusing on residents’ perceptions of altered and disappearing memories and mutating and collapsing futures, effected by the ongoing architectural and infrastructural transformations taking place in Gellerup I explore how the relationship between time and space is affected by material transformations. How do material transformations shape the future and the past, hopes and memories?

Discussants: Mark Vacher (KU), Noa Vaisman (AU)
