The talk will present the concept of emerging reproductive narratives, in a restrictive but also changing reproductive landscape in the Faroe Islands, taking its cue from the lack of reproductive languages in various spaces. It will present how politicians and media speak in a void of political and debate language, how women speak less so in a "rights-language" and how the society in general lacks abortion narratives to draw on.
The second half of the talk will, on the other hand, explore the emerging reproductive narratives from an individual and pro-choice activism perspective and how they take shape in the context of lack of languages and change. The concept of emerging reproductive narratives illustrates how it draws on current and past languages/knowledges and practices and how it is continuously taking shape, tested, navigated and negotiated throughout one's lifetime, in cultural, technological and political contexts, and not exclusively in reproductive moments (like IVF, abortion, birth, etc).
