The talk will present the theoretical and methodological framework of the project Reparative Encounters: Repairing Danish Colonial Legacies through Arts-Based Collaboration, which brings together researchers, artists and curators from the US Virgin Islands, Ghana, Kalaallit Nunaat, Faroe Islands and Denmark to jointly explore the relations, differences, and solidarities between these regions differently impacted by Danish colonialism. The project employs arts-based collaboration across these locations to generate dialogue between different colonial experiences and access overlooked perspectives through art creation.
Danish colonialism forcibly connected these regions through the movement of people and capital, but it also severed communities from their histories, identities, archives and cultural expressions. The project departs from the premise that these colonial legacies require reparative approaches that can be developed through artistic collaboration.
During the talk Daniela will share a series of artworks and exhibitions created during the project, which will act as triggers for conversation.
All welcome.
