CPH:DOX Science Cinema panel with Fine Brendtner

Event: Deep-Sea Mines from a Research Perspective

The Documentary Film Festival CPH:DOX launches its digital festival with a live-streamed panel from the National Museum about deep-sea ecosystems, the impact of deep-sea mining on the climate and the potential role of minerals in the green transition.

Join the final screening of this year’s SCIENCE:CINEMA at the National Museum, where this year’s digital festival will also launch.
After the screening of ‘How Deep is Your Love”, we invite you to a conversation with deep-sea researcher Julia M. Otte, marine archaeologist Andreas Kallmeyer Bloch, and PhD fellow in environmental anthropology Fine Brendtner about the fascinating ecosystems of the deep sea and the unique deep-sea knolls.
The discussion will cover the growing interest in deep-sea mining and how it affects the hidden world beneath the ocean’s surface.
The researchers will talk about both the destructive consequences of extraction and the conflicting viewpoints that see the minerals as a potential solution to the green transition.

The panel discussion will be livestreamed nationwide, and afterwards, we invite everyone to a Science party in the beautiful foyer of the National Museum to celebrate that audiences from all over the country can now follow along with CPH:DOX online.
