Plastics pollution and aquatic worlds: Fieldwork encounters and entanglements in Fiji and the South Pacific Ocean
From January to May this year, Johanne went on her first period of fieldwork. Based in Suva, Fiji she worked closely with Master and PhD students from the Discipline of Marine Studies at the University of the South Pacific and took part in activates and meetings with non-governmental organizations working with plastics politics. During this talk she will share with us some of her initial findings and hope to open up the room for perspectives on her current material and ideas for her coming work.
Come and learn more about how natural science researchers approach plastics pollution in the South Pacific Ocean, corals wrapped in plastics, why freshwater mussels are interesting to study for plastics researchers, waste colonialism and experimenting with methods for a multispecies blue humanities.
All are welcome. Please let Johanne know that you are coming by sending her an email at tarpgaard@cas.au.dk
