Do you have a lot of texts that you would like to quickly get a handle on? Do your resources contain place names and other spatial data you would like to plot in a map? This one-day workshop is for you!

Join us in a community-oriented, friendly and low-key environment to learn the basics of text mining with Voyant, an exploratory online platform, and foundations of spatial data creation and visualisation using google maps and carto.db.

All you need is a computer with power cord and ability to access internet on campus; no previous skills are necessary. If you have any (machine-readable) textual sources or spatial data of your own, bring them along!

Finally, this workshop will be crowned by a talk by Daniela Linkevicius from the University of Brasilia on "History and Authority in Cyberspace".

Program:

- Introduction to Voyant tools, and regular expressions

- Text analysis of Trump speeches (or own material)

- Introduction to spatial data creation via Google Maps

- Visualisation of spatial data in carto.db

- "History and Authority in Cyberspace", a talk by Daniela Linkevicius, visitor at CEDHAR
