PhD position in Berlin at Nordeuropa-Institut

As of the 1th of December 2023, or by agreement, there's a PhD position (65%) in Scandinavian Studies/Northern European Studies to be filled at Nordeuropa-Institut at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for a period of three years.

The PhD project will analyze and discuss the resonating networks (based on Latour's ANT and Fouccault's Discourse Analysis) of the idea of the "Icelandic Free State" as constructed by Konrad Maurer.

The position is part of the research project "Resonating networks. Discursive, spatial and personal hubs of research paradigms in Old Norse studies (1650–1950)" (Prof. Dr. Lukas Rösli, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin; Prof. Dr. Lena Rohrbach, University of Basel), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). A total of seven part projects will investigate the origins of central terminologies and concepts in international research on the Scandinavian Middle Ages from the 17th to the 20th century and their continuing impact in complex networks of researchers, research institutions and texts. The project will begin its work on 1 December 2023, pace of work will be in Berlin at Nordeuropa-Institut.
