Core projects

Digital Scholarly Editions and Computational Exploration

Our interdisciplinary team of scholars provides expertise in digital scholarly editing, encompassing material evaluation, digitization planning, metadata attribution, and more. These projects lay the foundation for further computational explorations of Denmark's cultural history.

Research projects

CDHtxt is engaged in a wide array of projects, ranging from the scholarly digital edition of Grundtvig’s Works (www.grundtvigsværker.dk), the digitization of the Højskolebladet to the digital preservation of Danish hymnals and bibles.

Computing Christianity: Establishing Danish Bible Translations and Hymnals as a Digital Corpus

The Computing Christianity project, funded by the Carlsberg Foundation, aims to digitize and preserve 31 Danish Bible translations (1740–1948) and 12 authorized hymnals (1740–1953). This comprehensive corpus will consist of approximately 35,000 pages and will enable advanced computational research into religious texts spanning more than two centuries.

By creating a high-quality digital dataset, this project opens up new avenues for studying the evolution of Danish Christianity, particularly the shifts in religious interpretations of heaven and hell from literal to allegorical. Through the use of AI-based neural embedding techniques, Computing Christianity seeks to trace semantic changes in these texts, providing insights into the broader cultural and spiritual transformations of the era.

The dataset will be made available as an open-source, FAIR resource for researchers in fields such as literary studiestheology, and computational linguistics. Additionally, the Royal Danish Library will host facsimile versions of the material for both scholars and the general public.
