Viabundus is an online interactive road map of late medieval and early modern northern Europe. The comprehensive resource includes: a database with information about towns, tolls, fairs, and other information relevant for the pre-modern traveler as well as modern research; a route calculator; a calendar of fairs; and additional land routes as well as water ways. The project has been a collaboration between scholars from several countries, in particular Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, who have worked together across geographic regions and hereby created a unique spatial dataset (open access).

The Danish Viabundus project has been a close collaboration between Archaeological IT (Aarhus University), Danish Centre for Urban History, Den Gamle By (The Old Town) and Moesgaard Museum. The project was generously financed by Kulturministeriets Forskningsudvalg (the Danish Ministry of Culture). As part of the launch of Viabundus Denmark, Moesgaard Museum is organizing this seminar in collaboration with Centre for the Viking Age and the Middle Ages and Research Programme of Materials, Culture and Heritage.
