_{When a monumental synagogue was discovered at the remains of Rome's ancient port in 1961, there were headlines worldwide. Despite the sensational nature of the discovery, the excavations at the synagogue were never formally published. Much of what we know about the synagogue is drawn from only a few preliminary journal articles. This presentation examines some of the archival materials from the early excavations and considers these materials alongside discoveries from recent excavations carried out at the site.}
