This paper is about how to study the way late ancient authors move knowledge through time, searching for an alternative to the traditional models of influence, borrowing, or adaptation. It gives a brief overview of the frameworks developed in the final chapter of my recent book on the Tura papyri and connects the movement of knowledge to larger projects of marking books, ancestors, and time.
