Mark Haughton - New Postdoc at the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies

Mark Haughton will be affiliated the ANTHEA project from August 2021.

I am coming to Denmark from Cambridge in the UK, where I did a PhD on gender and age in the Bronze Ages of Ireland and Scotland before working in the Department of Archaeology there as a teaching associate and with the Cambridge Archaeological Unit in fieldwork and research (including a fun stint working on the post-excavation of the fabulously well-preserved Bronze Age settlement at Must Farm!). Before Cambridge, I did my undergrad and masters at University College Dublin in Ireland, where I am from. As part of the Anthropogenic Heathlands project, I'll be looking at the spatial relationships between areas of  human activity and the heathland landscape, with a view to understanding how the persistent entanglement between people and heath developed and was maintained. This will involve a multi-scalar approach - from the spatial organisation of individual sites to broader long-term patterns of landscape interaction. Ultimately, I hope to shed light on the social dynamics of heathland communities which were an important component of these long-term human/environment entanglements.
