Since 2020, I have been employed as an associate professor at the Department of Global Studies, Aarhus University. I am also an adjunct fellow at Pacific Forum, a leading think tank researching Asia located in Hawaii. Before being appointed assistant professor by Aarhus University in 2017, I spent several years working as a specially appointed researcher at Osaka University.
My research and teaching focus mainly on contemporary Japanese politics and international relations of the Asia-Pacific. I am particularly interested in Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA). I have published extensively on the intersection of ODA and security. Most recently, my research focused on the green energy transition and the contestation of different ODA norms.
