The Department of Anthropology houses one of Europe's largest research environments for ethnography and social anthropology. We find great successes in collaborations and external funding through conducting research that is innovative and engaged in society in both local and global terms. The Interacting Minds Centre (IMC)

IMC provides a transdisciplinary platform to study human interaction. It involves researchers from anthropology and other disciplines within the humanities, social sciences, cognitive sciences, biology and clinical research.

Aarcon

Aarhus Centre for Conflict Management (Aarcon) is an interdisciplinary centre that is intended to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual learning among researchers, students, and practitioners working with conflict in the broadest sense of that word.

BLUE: Multispecies Ethnographies of Oceans in Crisis

BLUE combines a "blue humanities" approach with natural science methods to retool the empirical, multispecies study of four key anthropogenic-ecological crises of oceans: invasive species, plastic pollution, ocean warming, and ocean acidification.

The research group “Gender in Transition” brings together scholars working ethnographically in different social and cultural contexts with the aim of rethinking 'gender', 'kinship' and ideas of change. We are placed at the Department of Anthropology.

AMR@LAB

The project Antimicrobial Resistance and Labour Migration across Healthcare Boundaries in Northern South Asia (AMR@LAB) addresses the increasing global problem of AMR with a particular focus on the vulnerable category of labour migrants working in northern India and southern Nepal.

Center for Environmental Humanities (CEH)

The Center for Environmental Humanities promotes research on environmental transformation within the diverse field of environmental humanities and fosters new ways of thinking about these transformations.

GOINGLOBAL

The GOINGLOBAL project (2020) is a collaboration between MANTRA, researchers at Aarhus University and Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. The project examines challenges in the integration and retention of international workers in the Danish rural districts- and will particularly involve workers from countries in Eastern Europe such as Poland, Romania and Ukraine.

Aarhus University Network for Interdisciplinary Drug Resistance Research (IDRRES)

IDRESS is an interdisciplinary arena for scientific cross-fertilization between microbiology, genetics, infectious diseases, immunology, pharmacology, veterinary science, anthropology, health services research, history and philosophy to understand the complex interactions between microorganism and environment that lead to drug resistance.

The project brings together anthropologists and archaeologists to explore the current, historical, and pre-historic pathways along which the muskoxen migrate, transform, and emerge in constellations with humans where each affect the other in profound ways.

MIAU is a research centre that provides a platform and infrastructure for researchers at Faculty of Arts to enhance the dialogue on migration and mobility, across disciplines, departments and research groups.

The journey to employment

The purpose of the project is to focus on the experiences of female refugees and immigrants with the Danish labour market. There is a focus on which life circumstances and motivational factors have or have had an impact on women’s entry into the labour market.

The research and innovation project Veterans in Archaeology forms the framework for the VETEKTOR Buddy program – a mentoring scheme that introduces veterans with PTSD or other disabilities after deployment to metal detector archaeology.

Fending the Feral

The project (2021-2024) investigates the radical transformations of the social and natural landscape in the Danish-German borderland, caused by the construction of a wildlife fence in order to prevent the migration of wild boars and the spread of African Swine Fever.

Gendered Island Futures

This project examines gendered and gendered perspectives on motherhood and social change in the Faroe Islands. We focus on disability and motherhood, fertility treatment, male perspectives on motherhood and island motherhood as bonds of distance and intimacy.

IMAGENU - Imagining Gender Futures in Uganda

The project will provide a new perspective on gender and futures by placing marriage in Uganda and its decline at the centre, showing how this most fundamental gender relation implicates the filiation of children, livelihoods, education, health and people’s imaginations, expectations and hopes for the future.

A research collaboration between anthropologists and software developers is going to contribute to the attraction and retention of migrants in the SOSU profession, because precisely this target group can meet the increasing labour demand, especially in elderly care.
