My PhD project "Shaping the Arctic: Postcolonial Memory in Cultural Heritage Initiatives of the Arctic Council" focuses on the cultural heritage projects of the Arctic Council and examines how they shape and reflect postcolonial power relations in the Arctic. The project investigates how Indigenous peoples are involved in these initiatives and whose voices, knowledge systems, and histories are prioritised in the production of Arctic heritage. Particular attention is given to postcolonial dynamics within the relationship between Denmark and Greenland, and to how these dynamics are articulated both within the Arctic Council and in national Arctic policies in Denmark and Canada. Through this approach, my project reflects an interdisciplinary approach between cultural heritage, critical geopolitics, and postcolonial politics in the contemporary Arctic.
