My PhD project investigates the master-servant relationship on Danish manor houses 1750-1850 and how the relationship was understood, regulated and negotiated. It focuses on how authority was conceived within the often large manor households where power could be distributed among several individuals, and it examines how ideas of the household of the time may have influenced the position of servants within the manor household.
