All building phases of the Forum from Augustan times until the last 6th century repairs will be analyzed diachroni-cally by the recent excavation- and 3-D-documentation-project of the Humboldt-University of Berlin from 2012 to 2017: The „Humboldt-Ostia-Forumproject" (HOF) is based on the previous Berlin-Kent-Excavations and a complete geophysical survey of the Forum in 2011 supplemented by strategical sondages and excavations record-ing stratigrafical data in 2012. Its continuation will be dedicated to new cooperations with the aim of a complete virtual reconstruction of all previously unknown Forum-phases. Excavations so far provide a complete new insight into the late-antique structure and function of the Forum on one hand, and two predecessors of monumental Forum-concepts in Flavian times on the other hand. Both predecessors rely on different symmetries and have a specific geometrically determined relation to a new defined ideological city-center, the formerly much discussed mundus of Rome’s first colony.
The seminar takes place on Thursday, May 2nd 2013 at 16.15 in bulding 1483, room 251
Organizer: Troels Myrup Kristensen (klatmk@hum.au.dk)
