Cecilie Wilsborg Andersen - New PhD student at the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies

Cecilie starts as a PhD on 1 September and will be working on the project: "Women, Warriors, and Victims - Tracking Gendered Cultures of Violence in Danish Early Iron Age Bog Bodies".

My name is Cecilie. I have a background in prehistoric archaeology, and I am excited to be your colleague for the next three years - and hopefully for many more to come. My PhD project, "Women, Warriors, and Victims - Tracking Gendered Cultures of Violence in Danish Early Iron Age Bog Bodies," investigates the complex and often overlooked multiple-burial contexts of bog bodies from Denmark's Early Iron Age. The project aims to map and explain the extensive violence of this period, with early findings suggesting it may be shaped by gender. Using new theories and methods, and analyses of trauma, sex, age, and genetic data, the project seeks to uncover gender-based cultures of violence and potential pre-state genocidal events. I also hope to offer nuanced historical perspectives that enrich modern debates on violence and gender, helping to inspire a more equitable future. This dedication carries over into my personal life, where I focus on improving children’s well-being as the chairperson in the parent’s council of the local daycare institutions. I live in Skødstrup with my partner, Jens, and our two sons. Outside of research, I also enjoy arts and crafts, running, and gardening.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you at Moesgaard!
