Oleg Yarosh returns to the Department of the Study of Religion

Oleg Yarosh started on July 1 in a 12-month employment made possible by the Scholars At Risk Ukraine (SARU) fellowship, supported by Villum Fonden.

Oleg Yarosh is a Religious Studies scholar from Ukraine. He was previously employed at the Department of the Study of Religion and the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) in 2022–2023 as an AUFF-Ukraine research fellow.

The current 12-month employment at the Department, starting on July 1, 2024, is made possible by the Scholars At Risk Ukraine (SARU) fellowship, supported by Villum Fonden.

During his employment at the Department, Dr. Yarosh will collaborate with the Islamic Cultures and Societies Research Unit (ICSRU) and other groups, contributing to the academic activities of the Department. His research interests include the theory and methodology of Religious Studies, Western Sufism, and Islam in Central-Eastern Europe.

He will work on a research project focused on the discourses and practices of perfection in Western Sufism. Focusing on discourses and practices of perfection allows for a better understanding of how Sufism is contextualized in the Western socio-cultural milieu and occulture, as well as reconsidering the concepts of transfer and entangled history.
