Samuel Bowerman - New PhD student at the Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas

Samuel Adrian Bowerman is a new PhD student joining the GLUE research project.

My name is Sam and I'm a new phd student in the Department of Philosophy and the History of Ideas. I'll be working on social cohesion and social (in)justice.

Before coming to Aarhus, I did my master's at King's College London. I enjoy thinking about the ways in which we're shaped by others, topics like solidarity and hospitality, as well as questions on poetry and style in philosophy. I'm also interested in praxis and different ways of doing philosophy outside the academy.

My phd project will analyse - and problematise - the concept of social cohesion. I want to try out an affordance-based account of cohesion, and also critique cohesion's relation to structural injustice and social transformation. One of the main questions I want to answer is whether certain forms of cohesion perpetuate unjust social conditions and restrict possibilities for radical change.
