The Carlsberg Foundation is awarding new dissemination grants to strengthen researchers' communication of their own research to non-scientific target groups. One of this year's initiatives is Urban Opinion – an upcoming podcast series that presents UrbNet's research into urban archaeology and urban cultures across world history.

The podcast series' 20 short episodes will take listeners from the earliest urban communities to modern metropolises, exploring how cities emerge, evolve, and act as drivers of technological innovation and economic growth. The series also focuses on contemporary relevant themes such as sustainability, circular economies, recycling, conflict, crisis and climate change.

Based on UrbNet's research, Urban Opinion shows how previous societies dealt with challenges such as political instability and climate change – and thus provides new perspectives on how living conditions and urban cultures have developed over time. The podcast series is based on a series of feature articles by center director Rubina Raja and former deputy center director Søren Sindbæk, which since 2022 has been published in the journal Current World Archaeology.

Urban Opinion is published in both Danish and English and is aimed at anyone with an interest in the cities of the past and their importance for today's society.
