Jonathan Lanz is an Assistant Professor of Digital History at the Department of History and Classical Studies, Aarhus University, Denmark and is the American-lead researcher on the ERC Consolidator project 'WEB CHILD: Changing Childhoods in the Early Era of the WWW.'
Jonathan received his PhD in Modern European History from Indiana University, USA in 2025. His current book project examines the lives of the 'Birkenau Boys,' a group of eighty-nine Jewish boys who survived Auschwitz and formed a global network of knowledge exchange in the second half of the twentieth century. Jonathan has published widely in the field of Holocaust studies and histories of childhood, with recent articles found in Contemporary European History, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and the Journal of Genocide Research. He has held visiting researcher positions at the University of Oslo, Norway and the University of Leicester, UK.
A strong proponent of the broader integration of digital tools into the historical profession, Jonathan currently co-teaches the department’s BA course on digital archives and methods.
