I’m Nicolai Knudsen and from September onwards I’ll be Assistant Professor in Philosophy. I have been a Junior Research Fellow in Oxford since 2020, but I already know most of you as I earned my PhD in Aarhus. I look forward to rejoining the Department – and especially to meeting those of you that I haven’t met yet.
I work primarily on issues in phenomenology, social ontology, and practical philosophy. I’ve recently finished a book called Heidegger’s Social Ontology, which should come out early next year. At the moment, I work mainly on a related but separate project on the moral responsibility of groups. More specifically, I draw on classical and contemporary phenomenology to elucidate the role of moral emotions in the attribution of responsibility to different kinds of groups.
