As of 1 August 2019, We are happy to welcome Somogy Varga to the School of Culture and Society as Professor in Philosophy.

Presentation
"My current research is focused on various issues within philosophy of cognitive science and medicine. I am particularly interested in questions about classification in medicine, expert knowledge, and pluralism. My recent book Scaffolded Minds (MIT Press, 2019) investigates cognitive scaffolding and its significance for understanding mental disorders.

I have collaborated with physicians and I am currently working with a neurobiologist on a project about links between cognition and respiration. Other parts of my work are dedicated to topics in moral psychology and social philosophy.”
