In the seminar series Kitchen Table the research program Contemporary Ethnography presents:
"Bring your rejection letters. Reflecting on rejections and frustrations in the peer-review process"
- by The Proud Rejected Authors’ Group (AU)
Abstract:
Receiving rejection letters are an unavoidable aspect of publishing academic papers and books. But most academics keep their experiences with rejection letters to themselves. This Kitchen Table seminar brings rejection letters into the open. Five brave anthropologists each bring a rejection letter they have received as a starting point for a discussion of the frustrations and potential that accompany them. Instead of seeing rejection letters as merely embarrassing or as the ‘end’ of a paper or an idea, we suggest they mark a new reflective and often productive beginning. Rejection letters - those we write and those we receive - are part of publishing and academic life. We need to understand them better, and live happier lives for it.
