Elisavet Papalexopoulou - New Postdoc at the Department of History and Classical Studies
Elisavet Papalexopoulou joins the project "The Republic of Newsletters" where she will lead research on Greek newspapers published during the early nineteenth century.
Elisavet Papalexopoulou earned her Ph.D. from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. Her dissertation, supervised by Professor Ann Thomson, is titled Intellectual Activists in an Age of Revolutions: Women’s Ideas and Political Practices in the Greek Cultural Sphere (1800-1832).
Her research focuses on intellectual history, with particular emphasis on gender and women's intellectual and political agency. She has published articles in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes and has presented her research at numerous international conferences. From 2019 to 2024, she served as Coordinator of the Intellectual History Working Group at the EUI, where she organized workshops, seminars, conference panels, and international scholarly conferences. Since 2025, she has been Head of Research at the Laboratory of Political and Institutional Theory and the History of Ideas in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Beginning in October 2026, she will join the project The Republic of Newsletters at Aarhus University, where she will lead research on Greek newspapers published during the early nineteenth century. In addition to her academic work, she has worked as a translator of academic and literary texts and as a teacher in the Greek public education system. She is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese.
