You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition Ctr+Alt+Repair – Digital Everyday Innovation in Cuba on November 15, 2024, at 14:00 in the Exhibition Laboratory at Moesgaard Museum.
In Cuba, limited access to technology, digital infrastructure, and the internet has spurred a culture of inventive solutions. Ctr+Alt+Repair showcases how Cubans are building an independent repair culture and DIY digital innovations. Through a series of research-based artworks, the exhibition explores the alternative infrastructures developed to address technological exclusions.
From extensive, self-made computer networks and creative repair practices to offline “sneakernets,” the exhibition offers a unique look into how Cubans overcome scarcity by reusing and reimagining technology. These DIY systems not only defy the dominance of global IT giants but also provide community-centered alternatives to the consumer-driven digital landscape.
Ctr+Alt+Repair critiques planned obsolescence, questions digital rights, and highlights human ingenuity in the face of limitations.
The exhibition is a collaborative project by anthropologist Steffen Köhn and artist Nestor Siré with support from Aarhus University, Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, Knud Højgaard Foundation, Augustinus Foundation, and Beckett Foundation.
