The primary aim of these workshops is to complement traditional (text-based) publication forums by promoting and refining multimodal outputs, while fostering collaboration across the School of Culture and Society.

We seek to engage in anthropology and cultural studies otherwise – to borrow a frequently cited phrase that is rarely put into practice – by particularly welcoming experimentation with image, sound, creative writing, and sensory media.

This joint project is envisioned as a series of events dedicated to rethinking how knowledge is produced and presented. While we plan to include guest speakers from time to time, the Multimodal Peer Workshops will remain open-ended and adaptable, offering space for work-in-progress and exchange in an artistic critique (“crit”) format.

Our goal is to establish a recurring forum where researchers can collaboratively explore and develop visual, auditory, and sensory forms of dissemination.

For our inaugural session, anthropologist Marie Odgaard, returning from the University of Toronto, will lead the workshop exploring playfulness in life and praxis with a particular focus on creating and being attuned to in-between spaces.
