Cansu Karamurat - New Postdoc at the Department of Archeology and Heritage Studies
Cansu Karamurat will be affiliated the COEVOLVE project to investigate gene-culture coevolution further using computational approaches.

I am fascinated by how past societies expressed identity, memory, and transformation through symbolic and funerary practices. This curiosity led me to pursue a PhD in Settlement Archaeology at Middle East Technical University, where I explored the evolution of skull-cult rituals from the Palaeolithic to the Neolithic in Southwest Asia and Europe.
Seeking a broader perspective, I joined the ERC-funded NEOGENE project, where I worked with archaeologists, geneticists, and anthropologists to connect material culture with ancient DNA.
As a postdoctoral researcher in the COEVOLVE project at Aarhus University, I aim to investigate gene-culture coevolution further using computational approaches. My goal is to understand better how material and genetic changes intertwined during the Late Upper Palaeolithic.
