Tessi Loeffelmann - New Postdoc at the Department of Archeology and Heritage Studies

Tessi Loeffelmann joined CAS as a postdoctoral researcher on 1 August.

I graduated with a MA Joint Honours degree in Archaeology and History from Glasgow University in 2013 and subsequently completed an MSc in Palaeopathology at Durham University in the UK.

After this, I worked in commercial archaeology for two years until 2016, when I started my co-tutelle PhD with an Arts and Humanities Research Council UK (Northern Bridge) studentship at Durham University and Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB).
In my thesis, I investigated mobility in early medieval Britain (c. AD 400-1000) with a focus on strontium isotope analyses of cremated human and animal remains.

Since then, I have been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Brussels Bioarchaeology Lab at VUB, where I have been involved in the ERC LUMIERE and FWO CRUMBEL projects led by Prof Christophe Snoeck, as well as commercial projects, which allowed me to work with cremated remains from different periods and geographical areas. I like engaging with theoretical approaches in my work and enjoy thinking about the relationships that are reflected by isotopes measured in humans, animals, and other organisms.
