My PhD-project "Negative Moments and Waves of Commemoration: Official Redress of Colonialism in Denmark and the Netherlands, 1990s-2025” centers on how governments, provinces and municipalities in the two countries have engaged with colonial history and calls for redress since the 1990s. It draws on the fields of memory studies and comparative history and contains a consistently structured collection of redress data for the two countries. The project centers on the research question: Which mnemonic efforts have characterised Denmark and the Netherlands’ official redress responses to negative moments from the 1990s-2025 and what are the lasting effects of these forms of redress?

Other research interests:

Next to the PhD research, I have taught and done public dissemination work on commemoration of the Danish-Greenlandic colonial past and its ties to the present. My involvement in the research project Afmagt.dk also centres on this topic and includes collaboration with the Greenlandic Houses [De Grønlandske Huse] in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
